300 Series Stainless Steel Alloys
300 series stainless steel alloys are non-magnetic composition of chromium and nickel. These stainless steel alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, but they cannot achieve the required strength through heat treatment. Also, 304 and 316 steel alloys are resistant to corrosion due to welding and other high temperature processes.
The 300 series stainless steel alloys contain 16-30% chromium and 6-35% nickel. Depending on the casting composition of alloys, its microstructure may be mostly or entirely austenitic and therefore doesn’t respond to heat treatment. 300 Grade stainless steel is easily welded and machined but has already been hardened. These alloys, which are usually annealed by heat treatment, have a high resistance to corrosion and retain their properties at high temperatures.
