Casting Steel Impellers
The impeller of a steel pump is a means of supplying energy. This part is a rotating component in centrifugal pump, which consists of a number of curved blades. Its main function is to transfer the mechanical energy of liquids in order to increase the pressure of liquids.
Impeller production methods mainly are sand casting, investment casting, welding and so on. Although investment casting is now the most advanced method of producing impellers.
Recently, precision casting has entered a new era, and instead of using the old ways of mold making, now it’s possible to create complex parts and also save money and time. Rapid prototyping with the help of 3D printers which give us the ability to provide a 3D model of the original pattern.
Due to its high resistance to corrosion and rust, the best choice for making impellers are stainless steel alloys. It also make it possible to use them in the food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
Impellers Types:
The design of an impeller is the most important factor in pump performance. Impellers consist of three main categories:
- Open impellers
- Semi-open impellers
- Enclosed impellers
